Sandra Bullock picket up an Oscar for her performance as a Rebublican matriarch in middleclass Tenessee who takes a black teenager from the wrong side of the tracks and turns him into a successful American football star.

 

The film is based on the remarklable true story of Michael Oher.

Svhmaltzy and feelgood, it undoubtedly "tugs at the heartstrings", altrought Bristish audinses may grow restless in the final reel, which features far too much American football.

The performace is dominated by a strangely humourless glazed expression.

The movie's uncomplicated view of black people as either irredeemably dim, vicious and drug-addle or helplessly in need of white people's patroange is creepy and even borderline racist.
